Q: What is "WMU Sasakawa Fellowship Program"?
A: "WMU Sasakawa Fellowship Program" is a scholarship grant system for those who would like to study at World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmo, Sweden. And "Friends of WMU, Japan" Secretariat which is located in the headquarters of Ocean Policy Research Foundation in Tokyo, Japan, has been operating this Fellowship Program.

Q: What does "Friends of WMU, Japan" Secretariat do?
A: The secretariat has been entrusted with the administration of “WMU Sasakawa
Fellowship Program” by The Nippon Foundation (Chairman Yohei Sasakawa),
and receives financial support from The Nippon Foundation for the purpose
of awarding "WMU Sasakawa Fellowship Program" to competent students
from around the world. Each year, approximately 25 candidates from developing
countries are selected as WMU Sasakawa Fellowship Students and are sent
to World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden to participate in the 17-month
standard program.

Q: How can I apply for WMU Sasakawa Fellowship?
A: Simply, you make a contact with the admissions office at World Maritime University for the application forms. If you wish to be considered for a WMU Sasakawa Fellowship, you will also need to fill out the form for “Motivational Statement by Sasakawa Fellowship Applicants”. These forms can be found in the Academic Handbook WMU provides which you can order to the University by email at: info@wmu.se

*Please remember, the form for “Motivational Statement by Sasakawa Fellowship
Applicants” should be completed by the candidate him/herself; however,
the “Application for Financial Support from Donors” must be completed by
the employer or nominating authority (Donors will not consider applications
from the candidate alone).

A: Our “Fellows’ Directory” page in the website is for WMU Sasakawa Fellows
and current Sasakawa Fellowship students only. If this pertains to you,
you will need to contact the “Friends of WMU, Japan” Secretariat to get
your own username and password. For more information, please do not hesitate
