Ocean Policy Research Foundation (OPRF)
Ocean Policy Research Foundation (OPRF) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to the research and development of shipbuilding and marine technology, and to the distribution of information on maritime topics. With over twenty years of significant achievement behind it, OPRF is currently committed to a broad range of activities and is considered to be one of Japan's most important private foundations.
OPRF is organized into two main departments such as Marine Technology and Cooperation and Ocean Policy Research, which were set up recently to address the diverse and growing problems related to human use of the oceans. In addition, there are administration and accounting divisions and the international affairs division, which promotes collaboration in the fields of shipbuilding and international transport.
As to the Foundation's international activities, at any one time as many as ten OPRF experts stationed in five of the world's major cities are collecting maritime information.
London, Paris, New York, Singapore and Shanghai: these are the world's major distribution centers for maritime information, and vital links in OPRF's information network. Information pours into OPRF headquarters on a daily basis, to be professionally processedand presented in a wide variety of publications.
OPRF is engaged in many activities to promote global exchanges and cooperation
in the field of international transport. OPRF has so far brought as many
as 1,900 transportation experts from over 80 countries to Japan for symposia,
conferences and technical meetings. Also, OPRF is sending an increasing
number of delegations overseas, with special missions including the promotion
of technology transfer to developing countries.
